Scooby Doo Fan Art # 5: Shaggy, Scooby, Daphne
Scouring the internet for good Scooby Doo art, two things became readily apparent: one– Velma is the most loved of the Scooby gang, and the amount of decent fan art out there devoted to her positively dwarfs the other members; two– no one loves Fred. I couldn’t find a single decent piece of fan art devoted to the affable jock — it’s as if my geek brethern who grew up with Scooby Doo just couldn’t bring themselves to idolise a hunky — if a bit bland — jock, despite his placid and genial nature.
I knew a few Fred-types in high school and uni, guys that were part of the cool cliques but who — bizarrely — didn’t feel the need to bully or intimidate those who didn’t fit the mould. In the cut-throat arena that was high school, it was quite disquieting when a football player was having a joke with you instead of at your expense, or being nice to you and the rest of the outcasts and social misfits — and don’t get me wrong, it was cool — but you were always aware that a) they were a jock and you were a nerd and that gulf could never be traversed, and b) it was quite irritating that here was this cool/handsome/popular dude who was also, deep down, quite a nice guy: you couldn’t even write him off by saying that he’s a dick. You had nothing on him.
Actually, now that I think about it, fuck Fred Jones.
So, the penultimate post of this series will focus on Shaggy, Scooby, and Daphne, and the last post exclusively on Velma. Because nerds really love Velma, whether that be frumpy original Velma or re-imagined Hipster Velma. As always, whilst a few of the pictures I have found might verge on good-girl art, I’ll happily post them if they’re of the Dave Stevens/Adam Hughes mould (and quality), but I’ll post nothing stronger or more explicit.
Oh, there are a few pictures that I couldn’t source credits for, but I really do want to provide correct attribution, so if you know where the anonymous ones are from, please let me know. As always, please click on the pictures to link to the artist’s websites.
